What is Montessori?

Maria Montessori (1870-1952) was an Italian physician and educator who is best known for developing the Montessori method of education. She was one of the first women in Italy to earn a medical degree, graduating from the University of Rome in 1896.

Montessori's educational philosophy emphasizes the creative potential of children, their innate drive to learn, and the importance of treating each child as an individual.

In 1907, she opened the first "Casa dei Bambini" (Children's House) in Rome, applying her methods to children of normal intelligence. Her approach proved highly successful, leading to the establishment of Montessori schools worldwide. Montessori's methods focus on hands-on learning, self-directed activity, and collaborative play, using specially designed educational materials.
