Founder: Dr. Maria Montessori (1870-1952)
- Maria Montessori was the first woman medical doctor in Italy, was also a teacher and anthropologist, twice nominated for the Nobel Peace prize.
- She started her first kindergarten in Rome in 1907; her accomplishments here earned her worldwide acclaim.
- She observed children and how they learn. This led to her developing a method of education that enables children to reach their full potential in a carefully prepared environment.
